Governor Raises Money in Talarico League
with $26 Million in 4 Months Since Primary

Governor Greg Abbott raised almost $26 million in the past four months for a re-election bid that's rounded up more than $146 million from contributors since he won a third term in 2022.

Austin State Representative Gina Hinojosa was no slouch in the donor dollar chase in the same of span time since the primary vote - adding almost $6.2 million to her campaign coffers between February 22 and June 30 as the challenger for the Democrats in the governor's race.

GOVERNOR
2025-2026 CASH 6/30
Greg Abbott (R-Inc)
$71,213,871 $67,229,566
Gina Hinojosa (D)
$8,857,679 $3,002,416

Hinojosa, whose father chaired the Texas Democratic Party for a dozen years, pushed her total take for the current two-year cycle close to $8.9 million with the report that was due on the last day of June. But Hinojosa's haul was less than one-fourth the size of Abbott's post-primary infusion, which vaulted him beyond the $71 million mark in donations since the start of 2025.

Abbott spent more than twice the amount that he brought in from donors in the four months since he won the nomination easily in round one. The governor reported expenditures of almost $55 million between February 22 and the final day of June. Abbott had $67.2 million in cash reserves on June 30 when Hinojosa had $3 million in the campaign bank.

But Hinojosa appears to have a sufficient sum to be competitive in the event of a blue wave that could mitigate a massive fundraising advantage and render it irrelevant if it reached tsunami levels.

Abbott has been giving Hinojosa little more than lip service while directing attacks James Talarico - the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate seat - as though he's the challenger in the gubernatorial competition instead. Abbott and the Republicans know that the Democrats in hotly-contested down-ballot contests will be pinning their hopes on Talarico.

Talarico raised $30 million in a three-month span that ended June 30 for a federal race with more restrictions. That's still four million more than the Republican governor managed to collect in four months and a week. Wednesday was the filing deadline for the most recent period. The Texas Election Commission will have most reports for candidates at the state level available to the public online on Thursday.

Abbott raised about $1 million less during the four-month span after the primary election in 2022 than he did in the most recent reporting period in his bid for a record fourth term.

more to come...
